Description
The KH 420 is designed for a working distance of 1.5 to 3m, and handles this space with ease, thanks to huge power reserves and precisely concentrated dispersion. Even in diverse acoustical environments, the KH 420's neutral frequency response maintains clarity in every detail, down to the most subtle nuances. Subtlety is maintained and every sound element can be localized.
The KH 420 is a three-way tri-amplified monitor with thermally protected Class AB amplifiers. Just like the drivers, its Mathematically Modeled Dispersion™ (MMD™) waveguide is engineered for ultimate accuracy. Sound distributed in a precise horizontal manner ensures versatility in the listening position; the narrower vertical dispersion mitigates the negative effects of early reflections, like those from a desk or mixing console. Intentionally designed to be narrower, the KH 420's dispersion guarantees reference sound at greater working distances.
Features
Computer-modeled cabinet design using Low Resonance Integral Molding (LRIM™) materials
Extraordinary bass depth (26 Hz) with high sound pressure (122.4 dB)
Precise dispersion in the midrange and high frequencies
As a stereo system with KH 750 DSP and optional tools, controllable and alignable to the room
Any KH 420 is "pair matched" to any other KH 420
Best Working Environment: Close to Professional Ears
Designed for midfield applications, the KH 420 is the perfect main monitor in project, music, broadcast and post-production studios for recording, mixing, and mastering applications - and can be freely combined with all other Neumann studio monitors in a multi-channel system.
Ports and High Dynamics: No Longer a Contradiction
With its tri-channel amplifiers, the KH 420 is capable of handling sound pressures of up to 122.4dB, retaining high-fidelity and balanced response across the entire frequency range - right down to 26Hz for an outstanding bass response. Despite the inclusion of ports, there is no “overhang” or audible resonance in the low-end, and the maintains a controlled transient response at every step.
The computer modeled LRIM cabinet construction eliminates standing wave resonance, and mitigates intermodulation distortion in the midrange.
Neumann's proprietary powerful alloy fabric dome reproduces commanding high-end, free of distortion. The midrange is captured by the fabric dome with outstanding precision - it's ultra-light material and powerful neodymium magnet achieve a greater transient response and less distortion compared to other midrange drivers in this class.
The Neumann Philosophy
Developed true to the Neumann philosophy for monitor loudspeakers - every component, shape, signal and wave motion of the KH 420 is a result of this philosophy - no component or form is there without reason. The KH 420 represents exceptionally pristine and balanced sound, and boasts hundreds of features and appointments to achieve this, such as the precisely engineered curvatures of the chassis that reduce edge diffraction, the pistonic output of the bass driver which doesn't encourage harmonic distortion, even with the loudest peaks. Some of these incredible features are obvious in the KH 420, others, Neumann keep close to their chest - but combined, each can be appreciated - a notion that working professionals in studios all over the world can testify to.
