Features

  • New Weighted High-Tension Lugs The updated modern design maintains the traditional essence of the Recording Custom. To maximize the damping properties of the birch, the lugs have increased weight, giving the artist even more freedom to express themselves and reducing unwanted noise from the shell without the use of a mute. This ensures optimal sustain for the core sound, producing a crisp, clear tone.
  • All Birch Shell In addition to their punchy power, birch shells are known for reducing unwanted noise and eliminating interference when drums are placed next to each other. Birch's unique tonal characteristics ensure each hit is well defined, making it widely considered an ideal choice for recording environments.
  • Lifted Style Bass Drum Steve liked a bass drum with a 20-inch larger diameter, so Yamaha committed to that size. Reducing the interference from the floor to maximize the shell's resonance, and increasing the length of the pedal beater to center it precisely and ensure absolute precision when playing. This higher bass drum produces a more powerful sound, emphasising the sound produced in the core of the shell.
  • R1.5/30 Degree Bearing Edge When testing many shell combinations, Steve Gadd selected the 30 degree bearing edge for sharp response. The shell has a wide tuning range, responds well to a variety of head choices, and is easy to tune.
  • Coated-Head The toms and floor toms feature coated Remo Ambassador heads, known for their warm, clear tone and open, resonant sound quality. The bass drum features a PS3 Smooth White Yamaha logo head and a coated Remo PS3 drum head (the playing surface of the 18" bass drum features a coated Remo Ambassador head).
  • YESS Mount The mount and shell are connected with the smallest possible contact area, which minimises resonance damping. This is the basic concept behind the development of the YESS mounting system. With YES, ideal resonance characteristics can be easily achieved, whereas previously it was necessary to adjust the rod length to achieve optimal resonance or in some cases to damp excessively resonant shells.
  • Floor Tom Brackets Floor Tom bracket includes wing bolts. It’s designed to clamp tightly on the leg without damaging it, to save time on stage, and to deliver optimum decay control.
  • Diecast BD Hooks Bass drums feature designed doe-cast hooks, which provide noise free function through the use of an insertion plate.
