The secret weapon of this circuit is the Filter control - allowing you to cut through the mix with authoritative presence when turned all the way down, or find thick, buttery sounds with incredible clarity when turned all the way up. This natural, full-bodied distortion in combination with the unique filter control produces a classic sound reminiscent of a cranked tube amp, adored by players across genres and generations of music.

Staying true to the Wampler way, this circuit has been improved with the addition of two new switches - greatly improving the circuit's versatility. The Gain switch offers three unique selections, with the "stock" gain setting in the middle position, and two additional turbocharged gain stages to discover by flicking the switch left or right - with the left position delivering a rigid, yet smooth gain boost, and the right producing astonishing amounts of crushing distortion. You can also slightly alter the compression and clipping of this circuit using the Voice Switch, which tightens the tone to be more manageable with increased gain, while dampening some of the fuzz-like qualities, resulting in a modern high gain distortion.

Swap the Engine

The Ratsbane is based on a modern and more harmonically complex op-amp IC, but Wampler know that there are tonal purists in the world that will want to try it with an LM308 IC, so they included an "engine" socket to enable those adventurous DIY enthusiasts to mod the pedal with their component of choice - something Wampler recommends not be done by novices.
