The second product born out of collaboration between sE and Rupert Neve, RN17 began as a conversation between Rupert and Siwei Zou on the advantages and disadvantages of small-diaphragm condensers. THE SMALL DIAPHRAGM Using a 15mm diaphragm (the world's smallest production gold-sputtered diaphragm), the transient response of the RN17 is unrivalled. Such small capsules are highly responsive and therefore able to capture the most sensitive high frequency signals. However, smaller diaphragms usually lack low frequency response. How do you combat this? THE MASSIVE TRANSFORMER The RN17's transformer is considerably larger than standard, as evidenced by its unique body shape. This serious transformer was designed by Rupert Neve specifically for this microphone, and no one has more experience in transformer design in audio than Rupert Neve. With an audio transformer of this size, the RN17 can produce amazing clarity across all frequencies, not just the high end. The midrange is elaborate and forward, and the bass is rich and precise. The overall balance and headroom of RN17 has never before been accomplished by a small capsule mic. MATTE BLACK FINISH The matte black finish minimizes visual attention on the mic when used in a live setting or in the studio, allowing it to blend in with the background. CUSTOM SHOCK MOUNT Each RN17 includes a custom-designed, rugged, protective and no-nonsense shock mount essential for reducing the unwanted effects of vibration and rumble on the supporting mic stand. Omnidirectional Capsules When using RN17 as a stereo pair, these omnidirectional capsules can be used to capture stunning rooms sounds for drums, pianos and orchestras.
