The late '50s and early '60s was a turning point in the development of the Precision Bass - a transitional period that would see usher in many new appointments that would become hallmarks of the P-Bass. By 1960, the P-Bass had abandoned the design cues it borrowed from the Telecaster, now featuring a Strat-style headstock shape, a comfortable carved body, pickguard-mounted electronics, and a 4-saddle bridge. With it's gorgeous 3-Colour Sunburst finish and 4-ply tortoiseshell pickguard, the 1960 Precision Bass represented a more sophisticated, timeless style for this model.
Recreating the classic tone and feel of the original, the American Vintage II 1954 Precision Bass features a 1960 "C"-shaped Hard Rock Maple neck with a 20-fret, 7.25"-radius Slab Rosewood fretboard, a Pure Vintage 4-saddle bridge with threaded steel saddles, reverse open-gear machine heads, and a period-accurate finger rest. Driven by a specially voiced '60 Split-Coil Precision Bass pickup, the American Vintage II Precision Bass delivers the classic thumping tone that made it a time-honored classic.
